Project Description

Heat stressed birds will not eat during the day. When temperatures drop during the evening, the birds rush for the feeders, fight for position, and then gorge. Binge eating reduces potential gains, and due to fighting, smaller birds have less of a chance to eat, resulting in inconsistent weights. There is also an increase in chicken mortalities directly related to heat stress.

Coating Solution

SUPER THERM was coated on outside of roofs to reduce the incoming heat.

Results

SUPER THERM reduced the attic temperatures. This in turn reduced energy costs while at the same time resulted in a change in the chickens’ feeding habits leading to an increase in weight and reduction in the death rates.
